As AFRO AI’s highly-anticipated Demo Day nears, I find myself reflecting on the transformative journey we’ve undertaken. Through our own tenacity and with your support, we’ve developed courses that dare our artist-entrepreneurs to dream big and break new ground. Get ready for an unforgettable Demo Day featuring a top-notch panel including members from Google’s TextFX team and recording artist Lupe Fiasco. Sizable grants await our artist-entrepreneurs’ most visionary projects.
Separately, a heartfelt congratulations to Zoo Labs on their 10th anniversary. Their dedication to artist-led entrepreneurship serves as a model for community impact, something we at HiiiWAV deeply respect.

As a result, we’re thrilled to spotlight a dazzling variety of innovative projects on Demo Day, courtesy of some truly exceptional artists.
An esteemed panel of industry experts, featuring individuals from Google’s TextFX team and recording artist Lupe Fiasco, will decide which artists are deserving of grants—totaling $10k, $3k, and $1.5k—to propel their AI endeavors forward.
Beyond the captivating AI artist presentations, attendees will be treated to an immersive experience that includes a demo and fireside chat with Aaron Wade and Lupe Fiasco, the lead creatives for TextFX. The evening will also offer a hosted bar, live musical performances, and DJ sets to keep the energy pulsating.

As we celebrate Zoo Labs’ remarkable 10-year journey of pioneering an artist-led ecosystem, HiiiWAV is deeply grateful to be a part of the Zoo Labs family. Your vision to build startup entrepreneurship infrastructure around artists has been invaluable to us, offering essential support and resources that have made a tangible difference. Through Zoo Labs LEARN, your online school, and the Zoo Labs FUND, you’ve been instrumental in breaking down barriers for artists, especially from historically excluded communities. We’re proud that one of your grant recipients, Karina Flonnoy, was introduced through HiiiWAV’s Funding Fair, and that HiiiWAV artist GRNDNXL also received a grant from Zoo Labs. Your efforts have not only awarded $460,000 to 27 BIPOC-led teams but have also enriched the Bay Area’s cultural and creative economy, empowering artists to build capacity within their creative small businesses. career progression, and abundant support.
RECAP: AFRO AI KICKOFF
We kicked off our AFRO AI program with a bang on September 21st, offering attendees a tantalizing preview of what was come. The evening began with Bosko discussing the vital role of pioneering new technologies like AI to ensure ethical applications and secure our place in the future workforce. Lance Coleman then led a mini-workshop, where most participants, many of whom had never worked with AI before, created stunning album cover art. The quality of work was so impressive that we held an interactive audience vote, and the creator of the best album cover walked away with a $200 prize. The evening culminated in an electrifying impromptu jam session, featuring Bosko on the ElectroSpit and Fuze the MC (Lance Coleman) grooving to an AI-assisted jam. The food from local vegan hotspot Hella Nuts and cocktails from Ayaba Wines were on point, elevating the experience even further.
